KUNDALINI YOGA

Kundalini yoga derives from , kundalini defined in Hindu lore as energy  (usually represented as  a coiled of snake) that lies dormant at the base of the spine until it is activated as by the practice of yoga and channeled upward through the  chakras (energy vortexes) in the process of spiritual perfection.

It can be understood as a tri-fold approach of  Shakti yoga for power, Bhakti yoga for devotion and Raja yoga for mental power and control. The purpose of Kundalini Yoga is to provide a modality by which people can achieve their maximum creative potential, free themselves from the lasting effects of past actions (karma) and realize their  life purpose (Dharma) .

The practice of kriyas (set of exercises/postures/asanas focused on particular purpose) , pranayamas (breathing), mantras and meditations in Kundalini Yoga are designed to raise complete body awareness to prepare the body, nervous system, and mind and emotions to handle the energy of Kundalini rising. The majority of the physical postures focus on navel activity, activity of the spine, and selective pressurization of body points and meridians. Breath work and the application of bandhas (3 yogic locks) aid to release, direct and control the flow of Kundalini energy from the lower centers to the higher energetic centers.

A class in kundalini yoga usually leaves you feeling like you’ve gone to therapy, had an awesome workout in the gym, made it to your yoga mat and enjoyed a fun singing session with friends.
